What is NAWUC?
With the vision of empowering young Asian women through education, heads of different women's higher education institutions in Asia have successfully formed the Network of Asian Women's Universities and Colleges (NAWUC).
The pioneering network was inaugurated during the Regional Networking Conference of Presidents of Women's Colleges and Universities in Asia held at Miriam College last November 18-20, 2008 with participants from Korea, Japan, Bangladesh, India, Iran, Pakistan and the Philippines.
The network aims to re-affirm the critical role of Asian women's colleges and universities as a main vehicle for women's empowerment and leadership by strengthening their confidence and self-worth through developing their knowledge, skills, and values and to advance the educational, citizenship and leadership aspirations of young women in the region.
Towards this end, members of the network have agreed to convene regular meetings and commit to collaborative curriculum development, service-learning, student and faculty exchanges, leadership training and research activities. The regional conference was also attended by representatives from UNESCO, United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, and the Scranton Women's Leadership Center in Korea.
